Welcome to the June edition of HTH Accountants’ monthly newsletter! We send this out at the end of every month with news for our clients and friends about financial news and events in Ireland. This month, we’re looking at increases all round: in costs, in interest rates, and in the price of your iced coffee. If you need help with anything arising from these, we’re available on (01) 541 1446.

44% Increase in Irish Small Business Costs

Cost pressures facing Irish small businesses are showing few signs of easing, according to the latest Annual Small Business Survey from the Small Firms Association. The research, conducted by Amárach among more than 400 small businesses across the country, gives an image of rising costs, shrinking financial reserves and growing pressure on profitability.

ECB Interest Rate Rise: What It Means for Your Business

The European Central Bank (ECB) has increased its benchmark interest rate by 0.25%, taking it to 2.25% – the first increase since 2023. While the headlines have understandably focused on higher mortgage repayments, the implications for businesses are much broader. For finance teams, accountants and consultants, the latest decision is another reminder that the cost of capital has become an important factor in day-to-day financial planning.

Why Your Iced Coffee Costs More Than You Think

As temperatures rise and more people swap their usual latte for an iced coffee, many of us are once again noticing the price of our favourite caffeine fix. A takeaway coffee that might once have cost around €3 can now easily set you back €5 or more.
